Laurel is now 48 years old; she was born to Susan Coppock, a successful dancer, and a Broadway actress. She grew up in New York City alongside her two sisters, Selena, now a stand-up comedian and an author, and Emily, who is now an art dealer and appraiser. She finished her high school studies at Weston High School, and then enrolled at Colby College in Maine. Her education didn’t end there as she continued by enrolling at the Square Acting Conservatory, also in New York, from which she obtained a Bachelor of Performing Arts degree. the joined Chicago’s Second City improv group and Improv Olympic, where she wasn’t only a student, but also a performer with these two troupes.
Laurel left Chicago for Amsterdam, where she became a part of Chicago Boom, a creative group which performs in Amsterdam’s Rozentheater. Her performance received praise, and after the initial success, she was encouraged to continue her acting career. Laurel then moved back to the US, settling in Los Angeles to try her luck in Hollywood. Her first screen appearance was in the TV series “Derek and Simon: The Show” in 2007, and the same year she also made an appearance in “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, the highly-acclaimed TV comedy series.
