Amelia Kerr Facts

  1. Hailing from a distinguished cricketing family, it was Amelia’s father who had encouraged her to pursue leg spin bowling. She had later even opened the batting for Tawa College Boys 1st XI in Wellington’s Premier Youth grade competition.
  2. In June 2018, she had scored a mammoth 232 not out in a women’s ODI match against Ireland. This was the highest ever individual score in a women’s ODI match surpassing the mark of 229 not out that was set by Australian legend Belinda Clark in December 1997 during the Women’s World Cup. As of March 2021, these were the only 2 individual scores over 200 in the history of women’s ODI cricket. In the 2nd half of the match, she had recorded spectacular figures of 5/17, making this one of the greatest individual performances in the history of cricket. This was her first 5-wicket haul in women’s ODIs.
  3. The feat had also made her the youngest cricketer ever, male or female, to have scored a double century in one-day international cricket. As of March 2021, this score of 232* was the 3rd-highest individual score in all ODIs, men’s or women’s, just behind Rohit Sharma (264) and Martin Guptill (237*).
  4. In March 2019, she was named as the ‘International Women’s ODI Player of the Year’ at the annual New Zealand Cricket (NZC) Awards.
  5. She and her older sister Jess had both studied at the Tawa Intermediate School. Jess later went on to teach part-time at that school while Amelia has also worked there as a teacher aide for autistic students.
