An American rock singer, songwriter, and the founder member of a renowned rock band ”Cars”.Ric is also known for his hit albums like My Best Friend’s Girl and Just What I Needed.

Early Life

Ric Ocasek was born as Richard Theodore Otcasek on 23rd March of 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. As of 2019, his age would be 75 years old if he was alive. His sun sign was Aries. Ric’s family later moved to Cleveland, Ohio in order to seek a better future for their kids.

His father served the NASA at the Lewis Research Center, he worked there as a system analyst. Ric spend grew up and spent his early life in Baltimore, Maryland.

Ric attended the Maple Heights High School from where he completed his high school education in the year 1963. He also attended Antioch College and Bowling Green State University. But Ric later dropped out of college so that he can pursue a career in music.

Ric Ocasek (The Cars)

Ocasek formed a rock band ”the Cars” in 1976. The band includes five members along with Ric such as singer Benjamin Orr, keyboardist Greg Hawkes, drummer David Robinson, and lead guitarist Elliot Easton. The Cars has given several hit songs together from 1978 to 1988. As of now, the band has sold more than 23 million copies albums.

The group released its debut album ”The Cars” in 1978. Within just 139 weeks of the released of their debut album, the band sold over six million copies and it has appeared on the US Billboard 200.

The band released many hit albums like” My best friend’s Girl” and ”Just what I needed” which gained a lot of recognition and fame worldwide. The Cars contributed a lot of hit albums to the music industry until they got separated in the year 1978. In the same year 1978, the Rolling Stone Readers’ Poll named the band as the “Best New Artist”.

They also received an award titled “Video of the Year” for their song “You Might Think” from the album “Heartbeat City”‘ in 1984  at the  MTV Video Music Awards. However, in 2010, the band again reunited and released their first album entitled “Move Like This”. And the album was released on the 10th of May 2011.

In 1982, Ocasek also released an album ”Beatitude” the first solo album. He then released another solo album titled ”This Side of Paradise” in 1986. This album also featured Hawkes, Elliot Easton, and Ben Orr. It also includes a hit song Emotion in Motion.

Later after some years, he released an album titled “Fireball Zone” in  1990. He then released some more solo albums such as  “Quick Change world” in 1993, “Getchertiktz” in 1996 ”, “Troublizing” along with Billy Corgan in 1997 and ”Nexterday” in 2005.

The American rock singer had married thrice. He was first married to Constance and got divorced from her in 1971. He then married Suzanne Otcasek, in the same year with whom he was married for 17 years. The couple was going good and happily living together until Paulina came into their life.

Ric met beautiful actress Paulina Prorizkova in the year 1984 while he was doing a music video for the song “Drive”. Then in the year 1988, he got divorced from Suzzane. Then he married Paulina Porizkova on 23rd August 1989 on Saint-Barthelemy island.

Talking about his children, Ocasek had six children, two sons each from his three marriages. His eldest son, Christopher was born in 1964 and he is a singer of the band Glamour Camp. His second son, Adam was born in  1970, Eron born in 1973, Derek born in 1981, Jonathan Raven born in 1993, and finally his youngest son, Oliver was born in 1999.

Ric died at the age of 70 on September 15, 2019. As per the reports, Ric’s death is a natural death where he had been recovering from surgery. He was suffering from hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases which are both related to heart problems.
