Benjamin Schiff Platt was born on 24 September 1993, in Los Angeles, California USA, and is a singer as well as an actor, probably best known for his performance as the title character of the Broadway musical “Dear Evan Hansen”, which has earned him numerous awards, including a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. Other projects he’s worked on during his career include “The Book of Mormon”, “Pitch Perfect”, and “Pitch Perfect 2”.

He also made a national tour with “Caroline, or Change”, and performed as Jean Valjean in a Kidz Theatre’s production of “Les Miserables”. Other projects he worked on while at Columbia University include “Hair: the American Tribal Love-Rock Musical”, and “Alice By Heart” which is a new take on “Alice in Wonderland”.

In 2012, Platt was cast in a production of “The Book of Mormon” playing Elder Arnold Cunningham – the musical comedy by the creators of “South Park” makes light of Mormon beliefs and practices, and was well received, with many critics praising his performance on stage. He later reprised the role in the Broadway adaptation of the production.
During the same year, he was cast in a supporting role in the musical film “Pitch Perfect”, which is based on the non-fiction book “Pitch Perfect: the Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory”, playing the role of the magic-obsessed Benji Applebaum, and would rise to even further fame with his co-stars Anna Camp, Anna Kendrick and Skylar Astin. “Pitch Perfect” became a major success both critically and commercially, and was awarded numerous times. He subsequently reprised his role in the sequel “Pitch Perfect 2”.
Dear Evan Hansen and Recent Projects
In 2014, Ben was cast in an untitled production which would become “Dear Evan Hansen”, originating in the titular role; the show got an overwhelmingly positive reception thanks mainly to his performance. Critics called his work one of the best male performances in a musical of all time, and that his role was historic. He won numerous awards as a result, including a Tony Award.

Concurrently, he signed a record deal with Atlantic Records and started performing covers of popular songs, including “Somewhere” by Leonard Bernstein during the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.
In 2018 he participated in support of the anti-gun violence initiative March for Our Lives, releasing a song with “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda. He is also set to appear in several films, including the historical fiction “Run This Town” alongside Damian Lewis and Nina Dobrev. It was also announced that the film rights to the musical “Dear Evan Hansen” have secured by Universal Pictures, and that he is slated to reprise his role, but the film is still in its early stages, with him still under contract negotiation.

For his personal life, rumours persist that apparently Platt is married, but there are no details about his wife, and other rumours suggest that he’s in a relationship with Beanie Feldstein, his co-star from “Dear Evan Hansen”. Many sources state that he likes to keep that aspect of his life away from the public. It is known that he owns a dog named Bella which is named after Barden Bellas from “Pitch Perfect”. He mentioned in an interview that he discovered his love for acting while at a Jewish summer camp, where he got his first stage performance opportunity. He has been listed by numerous publications and is included in Forbes’ 2018: 30 Under 30 List, Time’s 100 Most Influential People, and People Magazine’s Sexiest Broadway Performer.
