Gene Tierney was an American film and stage actor whom director Martin Scorsese assessed as one of the most underrated actors of the Golden Era. For her role in the 1945 psychological thriller film Leave Her to Heaven, she was nominated for an Academy Award for “Best Actress”.

Gene Tierney studied at St. Margaret’s School in Waterbury, Connecticut, and the Unquowa School in Fairfield. Later, she attended Brillantmont International School in Lausanne, Switzerland, and learned to speak fluent French.

In 1936, she came back to the United States and attended Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, Connecticut. She also studied acting at a small Greenwich Village acting studio in New York with Yiddish and Broadway actor/director Benno Schneider.
