Michael Kopech is an American professional baseball player who has played, as a pitcher, for the Chicago White Sox (2018–Present) in Major League Baseball (MLB). He had played in the developmental and minor leagues under the auspices of the team from December 2016 until August 2018. He had done the same for the iconic Boston Red Sox team from 2014 until December 2016 after he had been picked 33rd overall in the first round of the 2014 MLB Draft.

  1. Michael, in his final year of high school, had accumulated a 3–0 win-loss record, and a 0.44 earned run average (ERA) in 11 games. He had also managed to strike out 129 batters and had given up a mere 18 walks in 64 innings pitched. His performances had earned him ‘Perfect Game First-Team All-American’ honors.
  2. In the 2015 season, he had pitched for the Greenville Drive in the Class A South Atlantic League (SAL). He had posted an ERA of 2.63 in 15 games and had struck out 70 batters in 65 innings. He was consequently selected to participate in the year’s SAL ‘All-Star Game’.
  3. In July that year, he had been suspended without pay for 50 games after he had been tested positive for Oxilofrine, a banned substance under the ‘Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program’.
  4. In the spring training for the 2016 season, he had broken his right hand after getting involved in an ugly fight with a roommate.
  5. In July 2016, he had reportedly thrown one of the fastest pitches in professional baseball history, in a game against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. He had been initially recorded at 98 mph in the game and began to reach 100 mph regularly before a 105 mph pitch was double-checked by different radar guns.
  6. In an offseason workout, in January 2017, he had thrown a pitch, with a 3 oz ball, that was unofficially recorded at 110 mph.
