Saud Shakeel is a Pakistani professional cricketer who had made his international debut for the country in July 2021 during their limited-overs tour of England. Before breaking into the senior national team in 2021, he had represented Pakistan at the 2014 Under-19 ICC Cricket World Cup, helping his team reach the final of the 16-team competition. In the team’s semi-final match against England, he was their top-scorer with 45 runs in 61 balls in a nervy but ultimately successful chase of 205 runs. In the Pakistani domestic circuit, he has played for the regional teams Karachi Whites (2015–2016) and Sindh (2019–Present), as well as the departmental outfit Pakistan Television (2017-18-2018–19) across all 3 formats. At the franchise level, he had turned out for the Quetta Gladiators (2018–2019) in the PSL (Pakistan Super League).

  1. Saud had first come into the spotlight on the Pakistani domestic cricket scene in the 2017–18 season when he was the leading run-scorer for Pakistan Television in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (Pakistan’s premier domestic first-class competition), with 488 runs in 7 matches. He had repeated the feat in the 2018–19 season as well, with 414 runs in 5 matches.
  2. In December 2018, he was named in Pakistan’s squad for the 2018 ACC (Asian Cricket Council) Emerging Teams Asia Cup, a tournament meant to showcase the talents of the most prominent young cricketers of Asia, at the Under-23 tier. In November 2019, he was again a part of Pakistan’s squad for the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. He was named the team’s captain as well.
  3. In December 2020, he was shortlisted as one of the ‘Domestic Cricketers of the Year’ for the 2020 PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) Awards.
  4. In January 2021, he was selected for the senior Pakistan men’s national team for the first time when he was named in their Test match squad for their series against South Africa. He, however, could not break into the playing XI.
  5. In March 2021, he was named in Pakistan’s Test match as well as limited-overs (ODIs, T20Is) squads for their tours to South Africa and Zimbabwe. He was again unable to make his international debut as he was ruled out of the ODI matches against South Africa due to an injury.
  6. In June 2021, he was named in Pakistan’s Test and ODI squads, for their tours of the West Indies and England, respectively. He had eventually made his international debut during Pakistan’s bilateral ODI series against England in July 2021.
  7. In October 2021, he was named the captain of the Pakistan Shaheens (a representative national team that is just one tier below the senior national men’s team) squad for their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.
  8. A left-handed batsman, he idolizes fellow southpaws Michael Hussey and Saeed Anwar as his all-time cricketing heroes.
